DOMAIN & HOSTING SETUP GUIDE

We must be getting close to your website build! Here are the steps you need to follow to purchase your domain if you don't yet have one, and set up your hosting account.

Often clients feel very confused by this terminology. What's the domain registrar? Domain host? Here are a few helpful definitions:

DOMAIN: Your domain name is the name of your website. It’s what people type into the address bar of a web browser when they want to go to your website.

DOMAIN REGISTRAR: This is the company where you purchased your domain name. This may or may not be the same company as your website host. If you don't have a domain yet, I'll guide you through this process.

WEBSITE / DOMAIN HOST: For most of you this will be my favorite host: Websavers. They provide the space where your website and all associated files, software, and applications are stored online. When you purchase website hosting, you are in reality purchasing a small space on the internet. Don't worry, I will guide you through this step if you need help!

Already have a domain? How to sign up for hosting.

We must be getting close to your website build because now it's time to set up your new website hosting account! I have chosen Websavers as my preferred hosting provider for clients because their tech support rocks, site speeds consistently awesome, and they have real people on the other end - not just a giant call center somewhere in the world with people working off a script. Plus, they have excellent site backup services.

Signing up for hosting can be overwhelming. Here is your step by step guide:

Go to Websavers using this link.
Sign up for either the Carbon or Titanium Hosting Plan. Carbon is ok if you're doing one of my starter one page websites and don't plan to blog a lot. All the rest of you should definitely be on Titanium. Pricing is in Canadian dollars, so those of you elsewhere in the world will enjoy cost savings.
Once you choose your plan it will ask you to choose your domain.

Since you already have a domain that lives somewhere else, then just choose the 4th option: "Use a domain that is already registered."

The next screen will offer you some add-on options. Good news: You don't need any of them.

Complete your purchase.

IMPORTANT FINAL STEP:

Then go to the MORE dropdown at the top right of your websavers dashboard when you are logged in and go to "USER MANAGEMENT". Scroll down to add a new user and add the email info@thewebsitedoula.com, selecting "all permissions".

Need a domain? How to sign up for hosting.
